After racing down the mountain to the Neckar River in the rain, I stopped at a camping place in Eberbach that was not in my original plan. The intention was to continue another 20 kilometers down the river, but the rain was relentless. The campsite was closed, but I decided to sit in the Greek Restaurant until the rain stopped. It didn’t. I put up my tent when the rain slowed and hooked up to the electric plug nearby. While the battery recharged, I fell into a deep sleep and was awakened by the drip drip drip of the continuing rain the next morning.
What can you do in a situation like that? I rolled my tent up wet and went to the office to pay for the night’s stay. In an attempt to follow the border to Hessen, I continued on my way along the river in a light rain. It was a very long day and the rain finally stopped as I reached the Rhine River nearly 100 kilometers later and slept next to a Naturfreunde Haus - a house for the friends of nature - a beutiful camping spot next to the river.
