ibd. "Die Fackel der Wahrheit..." Uta Göllner

A short ferry ride across the river and I’m in Spain. I plan to only spend 5 days here, and then back again to Portugal.

The first night, I camped free in a nature park (allowed in Spain) with a beautiful view to the ocean.

If you make the Most High your dwelling-- even the LORD, who is my refuge, then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;

Psa 91:9-11 NIV

Psa 91:9-11 Elberfelder

The second night, after pedaling down the coast until my legs began to cramp, I found place next to the ocean after learning that the campsite I wanted to go to was closed. This is the view from my tent.

The next day, 20 January, it was hot and dry, as I pedaled my way to Matalascanas. The farmers were complaining that this is normally the rainy cool season and that they needed the rain. The reservoirs are at 40% in this area of Spain right now. 28C is around 80F and at 32% humidity with only sunshine, only the sunbathers and cyclists were happy.

Why did I ride over 100 miles on the bike along the coast? To see the town of El Rocío, a sort of wild west town, where people ride horses and there is no asphalt on the streets. The cathedral in the town is worth the ride alone. Since it is next to a national park, the shallow lake next to the town is filled with flamingos and other tropical birds. A fabulous place to visit.

Farewell from Spain

I met these people, who quickly became my friends on my first and last night in Spain. The two men, Tony and Rudi, are model airplane enthusiasts. Tony’s wife, Böschi, likes to knit, like my own wife, Angela. When I left Spain to pedal the final 40 kilometers back to Portugal, Tony got out his guitar and sang a farewell melody.
